Disc golf legend Ken Climo turned heads when he launched Climo Disc Golf in partnership with Discraft. This standalone brand, with discs designed by the Champ himself, launched earlier this year with three prototypes: Champ, Belleair, and Skyway.
With prototypes flying true, First Run and Stock runs were soon put into production. However, one big question remained: what about plastic names?
Inspired by Winning
In each and every sport, stats are always along for the ride. It doesn’t matter if it’s batting average, yards per game, or circle 1 putting percentage, there is a data point for everything. Those stats tell the story. Even with every metric you can measure, one stat reigns supreme over all others: winning. 
When building a brand based on Ken Climo, the greatest disc golfer of all time, it made perfect sense the plastic blends would pay homage to Climo’s incredible playing career. A career that landed him in the winner’s circle nearly 50% of the time.
With Ken’s input every step of the way, we’ve developed the first two plastic blends for Climo Disc Golf: Trophy Line and Major Line.
Trophy Line
Ken didn’t wait long to claim his first PDGA trophy. In his very first PDGA event in 1987, Ken would take home the win. That win would mark the start of his 230 first place trophies throughout his career.
The Trophy Line will officially make it’s debut with the new Champ putter. The Champ has a standard depth, flat-edge wing, and microbead which translates to great consistency and control, whether you’re in Circle 1 or looking to get there.
The Trophy Line plastic is a baseline blend that has a middle-of-the-road stiffness. Not too stiff, not too soft, but just right – just the way “The Champ” likes it. For those who got their hands on the Prototype Champ, this is a very comparable blend you’ll see on First Runs.
Major Line
While each and every win matters, PDGA Major wins ultimately define your playing career and your legacy. During Ken’s playing era, there were often only one or two MPO Majors per year. Compared to the current era we’re in, today you’ll get four opportunities to take home an MPO Major win. Despite the lack of chances for those MPO Majors, Ken has taken home 18, more than any other player in PDGA history.
Majors get the most attention. Majors matter more than anything else in disc golf competition. The Climo Disc Golf Major Line only brings the best.
The Major Line brings out the best. This is visually beautiful; with its opaque and vibrant color these discs feature a glossy finish that does not compromise grip. It’s the top-end, premium plastic that disc golfers demand. In the hand, it offers a softer feel that allows you to really dig in and generate a lot of spin. 
The Belleair midrange and Skyway distance driver will be the first two discs to debut in the Major Line. After hearing great feedback regarding the Prototype Belleair and Skyway plastic, the choice to make it our flagship plastic was an easy one.
The Belleair is meant to be your next workhorse mid-range. Boasting a comfortable bead, the Belleair has the perfect amount of torque resistance in it to cover those mid-range shots.
The Skyway is not just a bridge to better scores, it’s the first distance driver in the Climo Disc Golf lineup. Clocking in with a speed of 11, the Skyway has enough stability that big arms will be piping golf shots in and out of the woods. Lower arm speeds will enjoy putting some anyhzer on the Skyway and watching those “S flights” fight out for big distance. The Skyway will be offered in weight classes all the way into the 150s.
Foundation Built on Success
Working in tandem with Discraft and having Ken’s input from start to finish, the Trophy Line and Major Line plastic blends only mark the start of what is to come. Finding the perfect plastic blends to match with each release is important to us at Climo Disc Golf. Having an easy to throw, predictable premium plastic like the Major Line combined with the grippy-yet-durable blend of the Trophy Line is exactly where we wanted to start. Looking ahead to future plastic lines, testing has already begun for the Victory Line, which is another premium blend plastic.
This solid foundation helps us continue to find innovative ways to bring Climo Disc Golf to the next level and further exceed those expectations of disc golfers around the world.

The First Run Champ, Belleair and Skyway will be available Tuesday, March 11 at your favorite local brick and mortar disc golf shop or online at the Climo Disc Golf Store.
