Before He Was "The Champ"
Ken Climo learned the flight of the frisbee with friends in Cliff Stephens Park in the late 1980's. The Clearwater, FL park had lights in the parking lot and Climo and his friends would take advantage, playing catch for hours in to the night. When a disc golf course in Cliff Stephens was installed in 1986, Ken's life would be altered forever.
Paying Homage
The Climo Disc Golf naming scheme of discs and plastics are all centered around Climo. Naming inspiration has come from his Florida roots, playing career, family and now with the Cliff, his home course. With the first Climo Disc Golf putter named Champ, it made perfect sense to name the second Climo putter the Cliff.
The Cliff Mold
The Cliff is a modified version of the Champ. We took the Champ mold and removed the bead. Surprisingly, the flight difference was not massively different. Out of the box, the Cliff has more glide and a slightly straighter flight than the Champ. The Cliff maintained a surprising amount of torque resistance, which allows it to handle some power. In the hand, the biggest difference between the two is that the Cliff doesn't have a bead.
Stock Cliff
Following a Test Flight release at Disc East and the more recent Prototype release, the stock Cliff is ready to release. At 3:00PM EST on Friday, June 3rd at the Climo Disc Golf Store, the following Cliffs will release"
The Soft Trophy Line plastic is a grippy, baseline blend with a noticeably softer flex than the original Trophy Line. It offers excellent feel in the hand and added touch on release—perfect for players who prefer a more flexible plastic. Designed with feedback from “The Champ” himself, this blend is ideal for controlled throws and confident putts. If you loved the original Trophy Line but wanted something with a bit more give, the Soft version is your answer.
The Champ & Cliff Forever
The Champ has called Cliff Stephens his home course for the entirety of his disc golf career. It's still the course he still can be regularly found at, whether testing a new mold, catching a round or supporting a local tournament.
The Champ and Cliff will now live on forever as molds within the Climo Disc Golf lineup. To explore the Champ collection, visit here.
